Double The Size, Quadruple The Play!

Abington, MA

Overview

As part of Abington's overall new high school-middle school project, Traverse designed a new multi-field synthetic turf field. Traverse overcame the challenges of fitting a large athletic facility into a site that was extremely constrained by wetlands, topography, and the construction of the new school facility. The fields were thoughtfully designed with walls and fencing to integrate into its complex surroundings.

On top of the various site challenges, Traverse assisted in the accelerated field construction, turning them over in the first year of construction, allowing school and community access during the construction of the school building. The 158,000-square-foot synthetic turf field allows for boys' and girls' soccer, boys' and girls' lacrosse, and football. Along with the high-performance athletic surface, the facility includes spectator seating, athletic field lighting, and scoreboards for each field, allowing use for both the school and the community.
